Some trips are simply good vacations. And then there are the trips that change you — the ones that leave a little pixie dust permanently sprinkled on your soul. My October stay at the Disneyland Resort for MEI-Travels' 20th Anniversary Celebration was undeniably the latter.
Three nights. Three unforgettable days. And more memories than I could have ever anticipated packing into a single long weekend.
From poolside mornings to once-in-a-lifetime dinners, from Halloween bashes to VIP tours led by some of the most knowledgeable guides I've ever encountered — this trip was the full enchilada. And as a travel advisor with MEI-Travels, I came home not just inspired, but absolutely bursting with things I can now offer my clients. So buckle up, friends — let me walk you through every magical moment, and maybe spark a little wanderlust of your own.
Celebrating 70 Years of Magic: The Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration
Stepping into the Disneyland Resort during its 70th Celebration felt like being enveloped in an extra layer of enchantment. This monumental milestone, honoring seven decades of "The Happiest Place on Earth," is a celebration that promises to captivate guests all the way through summer 2026. As an MEI-Travel advisor, being there firsthand for such a historic occasion was absolutely breathtaking — every corner of the park shimmered with a special kind of magic, infused with both nostalgia and thrilling new experiences.
From the moment I arrived, the festive décor set the tone, transforming the entire resort into a vibrant tableau. The air buzzed with excitement, anticipation for the dazzling nighttime spectaculars, and the joyous sounds of the new "Celebrate Happy" cavalcade featuring Mickey and friends in their adorable new outfits, dancing to a catchy theme song by the Jonas Brothers. Everywhere I looked, there were opportunities to create unforgettable memories, whether it was savoring themed treats or finding unique collectible merchandise.
Paint the Night Parade Returns
The spectacular Paint the Night parade lights up Main Street U.S.A. once again, dazzling with over 1 million brilliant LED lights and beloved Disney characters.
"World of Color Happiness!"
At Disney California Adventure, the new World of Color Happiness! nighttime spectacular evokes pure joy, inspired by Walt Disney's timeless words: "To all who come to this happy place… welcome!"
"Walt Disney – A Magical Life"
A new cinematic presentation with Audio-Animatronics brings Walt Disney to life in his office, sharing stories of his vision and creativity.
"Wondrous Journeys"
The reimagined "Wondrous Journeys" nighttime show delivers stunning fireworks on select evenings, painting the sky with Disney stories.
Home Sweet Hotel: Three Nights at the Disneyland Hotel
If you're going to do Disneyland, you might as well do it right — and that means staying on property. The Disneyland Hotel is an icon in its own right, and checking in felt like the celebration was already underway the moment we arrived. There's something deeply satisfying about being steps away from the magic, knowing that when the parks call your name, you're already there.
The hotel has a classic California resort feel with just enough Disney charm woven into every corner — from the theming in the lobby to the little details in the rooms that remind you exactly where you are. But let's be honest: one of the biggest perks of staying on-site is that magical, effortless access. No long drives, no rideshare waits, no dragging exhausted feet through a parking structure at the end of the night. You simply... walk back. And that alone is priceless.
For my clients, I cannot recommend the Disneyland Hotel enough. It sits at the sweet spot of proximity, comfort, and that extra layer of Disney immersion that elevates a trip from a visit into a genuine experience. When you wake up and the most pressing question of your morning is "which park first?" — that's when you know you've planned it right.
🌴 On-Property Perks
Steps from both parks, early entry benefits, and zero commute stress.
✨ Disney Theming
Thoughtful details throughout the hotel keep the magic going around the clock.
🏊 Pool Days
A gorgeous pool area perfect for relaxing — or in our case, working in paradise.
Day One: Work Hard, Play Harder — Oogie Boogie Bash!
Day one set the tone perfectly for what this trip was all about: balancing the business of being a travel advisor with the pure joy of being a Disney fan. We spent the morning and early afternoon working by the pool — laptops out, sunscreen on, palm trees swaying overhead. Honestly, there are worse offices in the world. The Disneyland Hotel pool area has this laid-back California resort energy that makes even a work session feel like a little slice of vacation.

But when evening rolled around? We put the laptops away and let the magic take over. We headed into Disney California Adventure for the Oogie Boogie Bash — a separately ticketed Halloween party that is every bit as spectacular as you've heard. The park transforms into something hauntingly beautiful, and the energy is electric from the moment you walk through those gates.

We made our way through Cars World, which is always a showstopper — the scale and detail of Radiator Springs at night under the Halloween lighting is just *chef's kiss*. Then came Guardians of the Galaxy, which remains one of the most thrilling rides in any Disney park anywhere. We also wandered through the San Fran Tokyo area, and I have to pause and give a special shoutout to the Birria Tacos we discovered there. Friends, I am still thinking about those tacos. Perfectly braised, deeply flavorful, with that gorgeous consommé for dipping — a legitimately incredible food experience that I did not expect to be one of my highlights, and yet, here we are.
Cars World
Radiator Springs glows under Halloween lighting — a must-see at night.
Guardians of the Galaxy
One of the most thrilling rides in any Disney park — don't skip it.
Birria Tacos
An unexpected food highlight — deeply flavorful and absolutely unforgettable.

Day Two: Learning the Resort — Then a Private Dessert Party
If day one was about playing tourist, day two was about becoming a true Disneyland expert. We spent the full day immersed in learning everything there is to know about the Disneyland Resort — the parks, the history, the layout, the hidden gems, the insider tips. As a travel advisor, this kind of deep-dive knowledge is invaluable. It means I can speak to my clients not just from a brochure, but from genuine, lived experience. I can tell you which lands to hit first, where the best photo spots are, and how to navigate the parks like someone who truly knows their way around.
By evening, though, the real showstopper arrived. We returned to Disney California Adventure for something truly extraordinary: The World of Color Dessert Party with front-row seats to the evening light and fountain show. Imagine settling into a reserved viewing area with a spread of beautifully crafted Disney desserts, a warm California evening around you, and then — the show begins. The fountains dance, the lights paint the sky in every color imaginable, and the music swells in that unmistakably Disney way that gives you chills even when you've seen it before.
Having front-row seats made all the difference. No jostling for position, no craning your neck, no worrying about whether you'll find a good spot. Just pure, unobstructed, dessert-in-hand magic. This is one of those experiences that I immediately knew I wanted to offer my clients — and the great news is, you can reserve this dessert party experience for yourself!
✨ The private dessert party with front-row seats to the California Adventure evening light and fountain show is available to reserve. Ask me about adding this to your Disneyland Resort package — it's the kind of upgrade that takes a great trip and makes it unforgettable.
The Light Show That Stopped Time
I want to take a whole card just to talk about that show, because words honestly feel inadequate. The California Adventure evening light and fountain show is a masterpiece of Disney storytelling — it weaves together beloved characters, iconic music, and choreographed water-and-light elements into something that feels genuinely cinematic. Watching it from a reserved dessert party seat, with a plate of gorgeous sweets in hand and nothing between me and that spectacle, was one of those rare moments where you're so fully present that time seems to pause.
There's a reason people plan their entire park days around being in the right spot for this show. The combination of projection mapping, dancing fountains, and an emotional musical score creates something that is equal parts theme park attraction and live theatrical event. It moved me — and I say that as someone who has visited a lot of Disney parks. The Disneyland Resort has a particular gift for creating moments that feel intimate even when thousands of people are experiencing them simultaneously.
If you are planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort and you're weighing whether to add on the dessert party experience — stop weighing. Just do it. Your future self will thank you with every bite of that dessert and every second of that show.
Day Three: The Disney VIP Tour Experience
I have done a lot of things in my time visiting Disney parks. But nothing — nothing — has compared to the experience of a Disney VIP Tour. On day three of our stay, we were treated to a full VIP tour of Disneyland, led by one of the most knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging guides I've ever encountered. From the moment we met our guide, it was clear this was going to be something special.
Over the course of the day, we experienced Disneyland in a way that most visitors simply never get to. Our guide shared incredible stories about the park's history, about Walt Disney himself — his vision, his quirks, his relentless commitment to creating something that had never existed before. I learned things I had never known despite being a lifelong Disney fan, and each new piece of information made me fall even more deeply in love with this place. Did you know that Walt Disney personally walked the grounds of Disneyland with such regularity and attention to detail that he would note the smallest things — a misaligned flower, a slightly faded paint color — and have them corrected immediately?
The man was extraordinary.
Beyond the stories, the VIP tour means priority access, private pathways, and the kind of seamless experience that lets you actually absorb the magic rather than managing logistics. This is another experience that my clients can absolutely reserve — and if you're a Disney lover who wants to experience the parks at the deepest possible level, it's the ultimate upgrade.

🎁 The VIP Souvenirs
Here's something I didn't know going in — and it absolutely delighted me: Disney VIP Tours come with their own exclusive souvenirs.
I walked away with a stuffed Mickey Mouse and a Mickey Ears Christmas ornament, both in the signature VIP plaid pattern that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the parks. They are charming, distinctive, and the perfect keepsake from a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
I now have that ornament going on my tree this Christmas, and every time I look at it, it will take me right back to that incredible day. That's the power of a souvenir with real meaning behind it.

The Perfect Finale: Paint the Night & Goodbye to the Magic
As evening settled over the Disneyland Resort, we made our way to Main Street, U.S.A. for one final piece of magic: Paint the Night Parade. And honestly, I cannot think of a more perfect way to close out three days at the Disneyland Resort. This after-dark parade is a full-on burst of joy — an all-LED spectacle with over 1.5 million individually controlled lights, the first of its kind in Disneyland Resort history. The floats are enormous and luminous, and the costumed performers seem to glow from within as they move down Main Street in a celebration that feels both dazzling and deeply nostalgic.
There is something about watching Sorcerer Mickey conjure glittering visions while Tinker Bell paints rainbows with pixie dust that completely opens your heart. Beloved characters from Monsters, Inc., Cars, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen appear in one radiant procession, with Anna and Elsa shining on the sparkling Frozen Fractals float. You may also catch favorites like Ariel, Belle, Buzz and Woody, Mike and Sulley, Peter Pan, and Rapunzel along the route — each one lit up in a way that feels almost dreamlike.
The music only makes it more special: a vibrant rendition of When Can I See You Again by Owl City, woven together with Disney and Pixar film scores and a sweet nod to the original Main Street Electrical Parade. It feels like a spiritual successor to that beloved classic — familiar in its wonder, but entirely its own kind of breathtaking. Standing there, surrounded by the lights and the music and the crowd all sharing the same sense of awe, I felt a full sweep of emotions. Gratitude, for this incredible trip and these incredible people. Nostalgia, for every childhood memory that Disneyland represents. And a deep, settled, happy certainty that this place — this original, irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind park — is my absolute favorite Disney destination in the world. It has something that none of the other parks, magnificent as they are, can replicate: the weight of history, the fingerprints of Walt himself, the knowledge that every other Disney park in the world began right here on this very ground.
Disneyland isn't just a theme park to me. It's a pilgrimage. And I will absolutely be back someday — hopefully sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I am channeling every ounce of the love and knowledge I gathered on this trip into helping my clients create their own magical Disneyland memories.
